Monday is my busiest day of the week! This is what it looks like:
6 am alarm goes off
Get up
Workout (yoga/chi gong/walk the dog)
6:30 am wake the family
Direct traffic (referee arguments, help family members find things they can’t, help grumpy people find their happy place, remind them of what to do next etc etc)
Make breakfast
Make lunches
Get clothes out
Make sure they are all on track with packing their bags and getting their chores done
7:20 First one leaves- kisses, hugs and well wishes for the day (maybe 5 mins for a quick catch up at the door)
Back to directing traffic (why do things take so long and why do I have to remind them of the same things every morning even though they’ve been doing the same chores for 5+ years already?)
7:45 next two out the door and on the bus (kisses, hugs and well wishes for the day)
Jump in the shower and get me ready
Respond to any messages or send any messages to organise the afternoon rush
8:15 walk or ride the little one to the bus and have 5 mins alone time getting home before the next round starts
8:30 workout weights/HIIT
9:00 Get the ball rolling on my chores
Put a load of washing on
Have breakfast
Plan my day
Meal plan for the week, get my shopping list prepared
9:30 Get to work
My business partner and I have decided that the best way to start the week is by ticking many boxes with one action and starting our Monday workday together, walking the dogs on the beach.
This one activity allows us to crush some Mum guilt in one fell swoop
1- clear the cobwebs of the busy morning and case of ‘the Monday’s’
2- get some fresh air out of the house, out of the car and out of the office
3- reset from the busy-ness of the weekend of children’s activities and events often managed solo as we have husbands who work long hours and often weekends. This offload is very important! We gripe and grown and express our fears, guilt, frustrations, excitement and memorable moments.
4- give the dogs some much-needed attention and exercise
5- unwind a little, let the breeze blow through our hair, watch the waves, smell the salty air and get in touch with nature
6- we get to tick off the first of our exercise goals for the week. Making us fitter and healthier and enabling us to cope better with whatever the week throws at us
7- we have a business meeting, discuss our plans for the week, actions we need to take, thoughts about this-and-that and any appointments we have which may impact our work hours
Yay for Monday mornings!
After our walk we meet back at the office, sit down with a cup of tea and set to work on plans we’d discussed on our walk. We are focused and productive and our minds aren’t wandering to what we should or shouldn’t be doing because we’ve already ticked so many boxes. I relish the calm before the storm…
Monday afternoons are manic!
3 pm Pick child #3 up from the bus stop
3:10 pm Bags unpacked shoes away, Afternoon tea, catch up on what happened in her day
3:40 pm Get ready for dancing, clothes in the wash and drink bottle in hand
4:30 pm Drop child #3 at dancing
Get # 2 ready for water polo
Take extra child home from dancing on our way to water polo
6 pm arrive at water polo with laptop in tow and smash out some work whilst cheering for #2
8 pm Finally bed for #2 and dinner for me
Phew!! That’s my Monday thank goodness the rest of the week is not like this….
Motherhood really is a juggling act and as I put all this on paper I realise just how much my job entails. It’s important sometimes to take stock of what it takes to keep all the balls in the air and give ourselves a pat on the back now and then for not actually running away and joining the circus!
